AVFP

Chicken Project

AVFP has considered many projects to provide income generating activities for the children and community. Chicken rearing is the most cost effective and improves nutrition while providing income.

AVFP's first step was to provide each orphan with one chicken and training to establish their own egg-producing unit. The orphans can sell extra eggs to help pay school fees and provide much needed cash for food, clothes and medicine. They can also exchange their chicken for other products. Poultry has a lot of potential, because the demand for chicken eggs and meat is high in Kenya. This project can bring good income, especially in the Christmas season, as prices of chicken meat increase.

The next step will be to expand this project into the community. This will be achieved by training community members to generate their own income as well as aid the school-feeding program.
